RISD Works is a museum store for Rhode Island School of Design Museum of Art. Unlike other museum stores, RISD Works is specialized in selling items that is designed and made by RISD alumni and faculty. It acts as a representation of RISD as a design school as well as its role as apart of a museum.
In order to play the part, RISD Works tries to educate the customers as the museum educates its visitors. From mass-produce to fine arts objects, RISD Works provides learning opportunities about the design and the artist to prevent customer from taking the design for granted.
To succesfully indicate the importance of each items, RISD Works needs to have the sense of exploration that RISD museum has. Thus, the new design of the store space revolves around the manipulation of the levels of curiosity and the levels of focus.

Tønder is the oldest market town in Denmark. The town has a population of approximately 7,595 people. It is located in the south-western part of Denmark. The region is called Southern Jutland (Sønderjylland) and the town is close to the border between Denmark and Germany.
South Jutland is Denmark’s historic borderland. Its history mirrors Denmark as a whole. This part of Denmark has changed hands countless times throughout history. Today, Flensburg Fjord acts as a natural border between Denmark and Germany, but in line with the Schegen Area agreement, there is no longer a physical border to cross.
According to local history, Tønder was part of Germany between 1864 and 1920. As a result, the town is built by the mix of both languages and culture. Rumor has it, they are able to speak in a different local dialect that is a combination between Danish and German.
A local source said that this historical town is currenty struggling with their economy due to the lack of tourist business. The locals seem to rely on tourism to live, however, a lot of tourists do not seem to spend a lot of time in Tønder because of the lack of facilities and services. Moreover, it is said that at least one local person leaves the town everyday because of the lack of job, education, and entertainment.
To fix the problem, there is a need to redefine their cultural borderline, the way the locals did once with the Danish and German culture.
In the past, the Danes and Germans fought over Tønder because of its role as an important harbour. This is a fascinating fact considering the sea is about twelve kilometers away from the edge of the town. The townwas often refered to as ‘Market Town’, ‘Harbour Town’, or ‘Shipping Town’.
Unfortunately, this important history relies on the word of mouth to be passed around. The only existing evidences are several mooring rings located on Skibbroen street. Several houses on this street still has mooring rings attached to their exterior wall. These rings were used to tied up boats on to the front of the houses.
Since the peak of the towns’ glory years relates to the harbour and market, the architecture needs to reflect this aspect of Tønder history.

As an agriculture-based company, Ocean Spray realizes the importance of nature in their work. They rely on the cranberry growers and the gifts of nature to harvest high quality products. Therefore, they give a high regards to sustainability in their business.
However, the current office condition does not reflect the identity of the company. As a company with sustainable products, it is only appropriate if the care for the products’ nature is reflected in the office working environment.
As a start, the adaptive reuse project of the company’s headquater answers their need for privacy, better circulation, and unity with nature.
The city of Aubervilliers is located in the north east suburb area adjacent to Paris.
In the past, Aubervilliers is known as an industrial city. Nowadays, the city is known for its diversity and music culture.
Like other suburb areas in Il de France, Aubervilliers is mostly habited by low to middle class people. A lot of them commute to Paris for work everyday in order to keep the low expenses. The demand of social housing is extremely high.
The La Maladrerie social housing complex was built between 1975 - 1985 by Renée Gailhoustet. It is the largest housing complex in Aubervilliers. This housing complex consists of 900 units on an eight hectares land. Beside housing, the complex provides a lot of retail opportunities to the people.
The construction of the housing complex was divided into three phases. Each phase consists of several buildings and it shows a significant development in the design of the unit.
The chosen building is one of the examples of a building from the second phase of the design. Compared to the previous phase, this phase of the design shows a deep consideration for private spaces.
The shape of the bulding is dictated by balcony spaces in each of the units. It gives a unique character to the building. However, the design separates the building into 4 different towers. The intervention was a way to explore the possibility of creating a common area that allows interaction and common spaces for the tenants of each specific building.

This design-build project is the result of a callaboration between Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) and Earth University. RISD students and faculty, along with members of the EARTH University community worked togetherfor the design and building process.
This classroom prototype exhibits sustainable building practices in the tropical climate. It also demonstrates how integrating curriculum, teaching, energy, high technology systems, landscape, and space contributes to a transformative learning experience.
